Behaviour Policy

So that everybody can enjoy a safe and enjoyable time whilst being a member of the Group, it is important everybody acts accordingly.  Good conduct is rewarded at every opportunity, but it is also important members are made aware of things that can affect their attendance and membership with the Group and ultimately in Scouting.

All sections promote the Scout Values, Promise and Laws and will develop, with the young people, their own section “Code of Conduct” which everyone in the section signs up to.

However, variance from the agree Code of Conduct will be dealt with in the following manner:

1. Verbal Warning. Any member ruled to be causing disruption to the other group members preventing them from enjoying activities will receive a verbal warning about their behaviour. The young person’s parents/guardians will be notified accordingly.

2. Yellow Card. If a young person continues with unacceptable behaviour after a verbal warning, then they will be issued with a Yellow Card. The leader may choose to remove the young person from the activity and ask them to sit out for 10 minutes. More serious behaviour will result in an instant Yellow Card. Details of the incident will be recorded by the section leader and the young person’s parents/guardians informed.

3. Red Card. If a young person receives 2 Yellow Cards in the same evening, then a Red Card will be issued. If a young person receives 4 Yellow Cards in one half term, then a Red Card will be issued. More serious behaviour will result in an instant Red Card.

Details of incidents will be recorded by the section leader and the young person’s parents/guardians will be contacted as soon as it is practical.

The young person will be sat out and not be allowed to take part in the rest of the evening’s activities.

A red Card results in the young person being excluded from Scout activities for one week.

4. Excluded Excluded members will be unable to take part in any Scouting activities during the period of exclusion, and:

a. Membership Fees must continue being paid in full for the duration of the exclusion if membership is to be maintained.

b. Any monies paid in relation to activities or events occurring during a period of exclusion may not be refunded depending on the circumstances.

c. Repeated incidents following two exclusions could result in the member being dismissed from the Group.

Please be assured that it is exceptionally rare for any member to be excluded.

5. Suspension Formal suspension of a youth member may be appropriate where they have been accused of a serious criminal offence or of behaviour that put adults or young people at serious risk of harm. Suspension decisions will involve the Group Scout Leader and the District Commissioner, and will be dealt with in accordance with POR Rule 15.4

6. Dismissal Dismissal decisions will only occur in consultation with the Group Scout Leader.

7. Bullying We have a zero tolerance to bullying and any member found to be bullying another will be dismissed from the Group and have their membership revoked immediately.

8. Conduct Any member with concerns about the conduct of adults or young members should immediately bring the matter to the attention of the Group Scout Leader or the District Commissioner.
